The Best Way to Track Yarn to Fabric

Yarn-to-fabric tracking fails when issue is in one book and rolls are in another. The reliable method is dull: every kilo issued to a programme is the same lot that the rolls are booked against, and the gap is reviewed as loss while the programme is still open.

Separate the yarn you own from party yarn

Commission knitting in clusters such as Tiruppur holds someone else’s yarn. If that stock is mixed with yarn you purchased, both the loss and the creditor are wrong. Two buckets, one production screen.

Issue, produce, reconcile

Issue reduces stock and opens an obligation. Production books rolls or kilos to the machine and the lot. Loss is issued minus produced. Pending quantity is the programme minus delivered. Do this per lot, not as a monthly average that hides one bad count.

Hand the roll on without losing it

Grey sent for dyeing is still that lot. If you dye it yourself, the lot continues. If a party takes it, the knitting delivery closes the obligation. Either way the weight should not be retyped onto a fresh challan from memory.

What software has to show

Yarn stock, machine-wise plan, roll list, loss and the bill. That is knitting ERP. A production-only screen that cannot see purchase and billing will recreate the two-book problem.

Frequently asked questions

How often should loss be reviewed?

While the programme is open, not after the yarn account is closed. Daily or at each doff is enough for most units. Monthly is how a 3% loss becomes a surprise.
